Our veterans committee serves several veterans groups in varying ways.
First, we visit the Lebanon VA Hospital several times each year where we serve food prepared in our kitchen, play bingo and distribute door prizes thru a lottery. In December we serve a complete turkey dinner and give each veteran a gift. In July the hospital staff transports the veterans to our Lodge where we have a picnic in the pavilion.
We also serve two local centers that house homeless veterans. We ask our members to donate from a list of items that we publish in our monthly bulletin to serve the veteran’s needs. We also use money from a Grant from the Grand Lodge to assist in purchasing additional items. This Grant is in the form of a competitive effort and may not be available in any given year. We also receive funds from the Lodge from time to time.
Our committee is responsible for the planning and operation of a program on Veteran’s Day in the month of November. We honor all branches of the military, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard along with MIA/POW. This event is advertised and open to all veterans in our community as well as all Elks members.
Our veteran’s committee meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM.
